Have you heard of the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation?
Or if you have, do you really know just how amazing it is? I’d love to take a moment in this week’s blog to tell you a bit about it! This amazing organization is just one of the many reasons I am so impressed with our Fairhope schools! Founded in 1996, this network of volunteers is dedicated to promoting and enriching educational opportunities for the students of Fairhope’s schools: Fairhope West Elementary, Fairhope East Elementary, Fairhope Middle, Fairhope High, and J. Larry Newton. You can check out FEEF’s website for the specific statistics, but in layman’s terms, many Alabama schools receive enough funding for the basics – core classes and some extracurriculars – but don’t have enough funding to provide vital programs like hands-on science labs or extended art and music. So over 25 years ago, FEEF stepped in to change this! Between receiving generous donations from partners on a consistent basis, receiving multiple awards, and hosting two signature annual fundraisers, FEEF has been able to give $2.5 million in grants. This enables students to receive the training and experience they need, in a wide variety of subjects ranging from science and math to art, engineering, theater, music, and others! FEEF also contributed to the construction of Fairhope High School’s Black Box Theater, and also provides tutoring for students K – 8th.

With only one full-time paid staff member, FEEF is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, which I have had the privilege to be part of for over six months now! There are quite a few ways to get involved with the foundation, whether it’s by becoming a Friend of FEEF and giving on a regular basis, or by making yourself available to volunteer for events or fundraisers! Speaking of fundraisers, the 33rd Annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament is coming up on March 26th…Here’s to doing something you may have never done ?
