Judd Gillespie – Agent Spotlight Bio

Judd Gillespie is the true friend you want to have in your court – the type you know will always have your back. Judd’s commitment and loyalty characterize all of his relationships, from husband and father to real estate agent and city league basketball coach. He was raised in Atlanta, GA, and eventually moved to Fairhope to be near family. Judd recounts with a grin how he had serious commitment issues in changing his permanent address to Alabama…getting his Alabama driver’s license was a long time coming! Once here though, Judd grew to love the small-town community where he has lived for nearly 32 years, raised a family, and built a business. In Judd’s own words, “All I ever wanted to be was a father. I got the dream.”

Judd has four children and a beautiful wife named Michelle. They are avid road-trippers and have the best sort of vacation style: make a loose plan and then just enjoy life along the way! The Gillespies prefer less-touristy destinations in the mountains where they can rent a cabin and spend all day hiking: Helen, GA is a bit too busy for their taste, but scenic spots like Ellijay and Blue Ridge in Georgia, or Franklin, North Carolina are the dream. Always the focal point of the Gillespies’ travels is the food! It’s forever an adventure to discover the locals’ recommendations and find the best flavor in the area from a family-owned restaurant.

When asked if he would let his children live with him forever if they wanted to, Judd’s answer was a 100% no…followed quickly with the assurance that his children will ALWAYS have a place to land. While Judd wants his children to stand on their own two feet, he feels the importance of providing that home base for them along the way. Judd’s oldest son is finishing his Pediatric Dentistry residency in Denver, CO, and he and his wife have just made Judd a grandfather! Congratulations! Another of his daughters is a world traveler, currently living in Puerto Rico. And with two children still at home, Judd’s days are a happy mix of coaching his son’s basketball and attending his daughter’s volleyball games. He has been a youth sports coach for over 20 years, seeing all his kids through soccer, basketball, and baseball. That’s one of Judd’s favorite aspects of working in real estate, that he never has to miss a game.

Another huge draw to real estate for Judd was the element of relationships. Before getting his RE license, Judd had a booming print company. He worked closely with real estate agents, producing their fliers and signage, but as business grew, he was more and more isolated behind the computer. Judd felt the need to get out and reconnect, and at that same time, an old friend, Brooke Butler, provided the nudge and encouragement for him to take the leap! So in January 2021, Judd joined the Brooke Butler Homes team at Mobile Bay Realty and has never looked back. Probably the biggest adjustment for Judd was realizing how much time and energy go into the process: “You’re not just dealing with the $200 sign anymore, but the $500k house. The emotional and psychological gravity of it is more intense than I first thought.” Eternally optimistic though, Judd lives by the adage he once heard at a RE conference: “The end of the world always happens. But as long as nobody dies, everything is fixable.” We see it here at MBR and anyone who knows him would agree… Judd is a keeper!
