The Power of Positivity During a Pandemic

Hello friends! Well, I find myself writing a pretty unique blog today, in my opinion.

Maybe not unique in the sense that I am the only one writing down thoughts about this topic, but unique in that I definitely would not have been writing about this subject at this time last year! (And, honestly, I hope I won’t still be writing on this same topic, this time next year ?.) All the same, here we are, in the middle of a global pandemic, each of us trying our best to navigate all the challenges that Covid-19 has posed…including a mandatory mask order issued by our Governor. While I’m sure there are as many opinions regarding mask-wearing as there are readers of this blog, my goal in sitting down to write today was not to “stir the pot,” but to say with conviction that positivity is powerful during these times!

I am full of respect for our local businesses who are doing their part to honor Governor Ivey’s order, and get such a feeling of pride when I see how business managers, employees, and customers behave with kindness, care, understanding, and respect for each other. Undoubtedly, it could be easy to give way to feelings of irritability or frustration! But one thought that really helps me when I just want all of the messiness to be over, is that the people I encounter on a daily basis, are not to blame for any of this! Venting negativity–whether in response to Covid-19 itself, or the way some people are reacting to it–really does not solve any problems. Whereas keeping a smile on (even behind that mask…you can smile with your eyes?) helps my thoughts stay more positive, which in turn helps me treat the people around me better.

The moral of the story? Stay positive! This too shall pass. In the meantime, I am proud to do my small part to help things get back to normal. I would love to hear your perspective on building positivity during these times, too!
